<VV> Fuel pumps, stock vs. electric - what is better?

I do make some exceptions -- after all, foolish consistency is the
hobgoblin of small minds (I cannot remember who said that). Safety items
such as tires, brake parts, etc. fall in my exception category ... fuel
pumps do not. I suppose because in all my years of Corvairs I have only
had one total failure (I have had several new ones leak, grrrr). My point
was not that one has to stay stock, but that one should not change things
just because they are "better" as there would be no end to that
justification -- change them if you have good reason within your experience
or from advice you trust that makes the change important to you. I
generally upgrade ignition considerably, only because I hate tune-ups and
have found that the stronger the ignition the less I have to fool with
plugs (and of course points are gone).
