Then again...
Having the shift knob there at the edge of he seat would be no obstacle to
the girl who wanted to snuggle up, and the shift knob provided a handy
excuse to keep your hand in the vicinity of the hemline. 2nd and 4th gear
might require the lady to reposition her knees... depending on how friendly
she was.
