Actually both had been around for a long time, in the '60s if you gat a 
catalog west of the Mississippi it said "Washawski" and in the east it said 
"Whitney". Same catalog except for the covers.

One time I visited Archer Street in Chicago (they had a storefront). Looked 
in the desk catalog and everything was the same except the prices were 
higher. When I mentioned this the counter clerk asked if I was from out of 
state and then pulled a different catalog from under the desk with the 
prices I was used to.
