I have a recently rebuilt 140 that has about 1000 miles of break-in so far. It's running strong and I'm pleased but there are 2 issues I think are related that I want to fix. First of all, when I don't drive the car for a day or two, it's hard to start and requires several pumps on the gas to get it running. This wasn't the case right after the rebuild as it would fire right up on the first crank with only a few turns of the starter and only setting the choke with the gas pedal then holding the pedal half way. Secondly, it was running real smooth under all conditions but now, when I accelerate hard, there is a hesitation followed by what sounds like a little backfire, then it takes off. I have a powerglide transmission and when I stomp on the gas this hesitation also affects or delays the downshift into low gear.
Seems to me like it's a carburator issue but I'm not much of a mechanic. With 4 carbs running relatively well (other than this problem) I don't want to screw them up or make it worse.
Even if this is a carb problem I'm contemplating replacing the new points with an electronic ignition set up. Which electronic ignition systems do you all prefer? I want an affordable and easy to install set-up.
