Ditto what Harry said.  Your dimmer switch is the culprit.  Replace it before 
you find a tree in the dark.  Clean up the contacts on the connector before 
you hook up the new switch.  In a pinch you can "excercise" switch 50 times or 
so, but this is a life safety issue.  It happened on our church van too so it 
is not a Corvair problem.
