<VV> Is it vapor lock

Hi Chris,

I had a very similar problem with my car last year which I thought
was vapor lock. The only difference was that the car would quit
running while I was driving many times and would not restart untill
cooled. After doing the usual check, make sure you do these:

Check/replace the rubber hose which attaches from the fuel pickup
to the hardline in the tunnel.

Check/replace the rubber hose in the rear where one hard line
connects to the other.

Check the brass fuel stones to make sure they are not clogged.

Check to make sure none of the steel fuel lines in the engine
compartment are contacting the engine/shrouding, they can pick up
lots of heat this way.

In my case none of this helped. The problem ended up being a
(fairly new) faulty fuel pump. One of the check valves in the fuel
pump was not staked in properly. When the pump would heat up there
would be enough clearance for the check valve to fall out/get cocked
to the side and the pump would not pump. Once the car cooled and I
cranked it over the check valve would pop back into place and work
fine till it heated up again.

  Good luck!

 Anil

The patient: 63 monza 900, pg. Stock motor, no mods. Drives better
and
better each week. Have been taking longer and longer drives.

The symptoms.

95 and pretty muggy.

Drives nice to the cruise. Go to back it into my spot.

Stalls. It never stalls.

Very windy, feels 15 degrees cooler (6 miles away).

Push it the last 4 feet (ever feel like everybody is looking at you).

Check the carbs. Move the linkage and small drops from the right
carb. None from the left.

Check the clear in-line filter. It has gas.

2 hours later, the engine is cool, and she starts up and drives like
nothing happened.

Freek incident, vapor lock?

Anything I can do to avoid it.
