Just wish the Tuna was closer...I would then be a member. Maybe my pace
would pick up..

What Matt is referring to is our "Tunas." These are tune up days that we
have three times a year, Cold Tuna in Feb, Juna Tuna in June and Luna Tuna
in
Oct. Many other clubs have tech sessions or restore a "club car" to help
figure
out Corvairs. We wanted to do something to get our member's cars running
and
running properly.
The club gets together at Terry's shop, a very nice, large Corvair friendly
(almost 60 Corvairs) place to work on our cars. The guys provide the parts
they need and we share our knowledge on how to repair whatever needs
fixing. At
the last Juna Tuna, one member replaced all the push rod o-rings and
another
installed control arm bushings for his front end. There were also some carb
syncing and other things going on. This Tuna was actually slow since the
other
Corvairs are running good (the result of 3 years of Tunas?). I even got to
work on my car (installed braided brake hoses). These Tunas have been
successful because our club is lucky enough to have Terry as a member. His
Corvair
knowledge, facilities and generosity are outstanding. It doesn't hurt that
there are other members that know their way around a Corvair and are
willing to
help those who are still learning.
The other things about Tunas are the socializing and food. I think for the
most part everyone in our club gets along with everyone else. Sure we have
the
Early versus Late battle, but it all in good fun. What would a successful
Corvair event be without good food? All of the Tuna food is provided by our
members. Doug Horstman (lurker) was our BBQ chef at the Juna Tuna, cooking
up
burgers, dogs and brats. Terry's Mom makes chocolate chip cookies and potato
salad. Other members provide the rest of the fixin's. The last couple of
Tunas
have been highlighted by outstanding deserts (my personal favorite).
I could go on and on (and on and on...) about our Tunas. I, and the rest of
our club, can never thank Terry enough for his help and hospitality for the
Tunas. I think that these events are the best thing our club does. I'm
looking
forward to the Tuna where we do nothing but argue about Earlies versus Lates
and eat, because that will mean that all of our cars are running great!
Try to do something like this in your club or stop by one of ours, we're
centrally located.
Ned
