Another nice thing about Orlando (aside from no rust) is that himmicanes do
not like land and we are 50 miles from the nearest Ocean. If you watch ,
the major storms generally go up coasts unless they strike the land at a 45
degree angle or less. And also the artificial high pressure over land
(millions of cars and air conditioners and concentrated on the coasts) tend
to steer them away from the penninsula. In the 20 years we lived here
before last year, we had one pass 35 miles south of us (and Florida is a
Really Big State so what is going on Over There is not affecting Here at all).
The one difference between last year and now is that in case the power goes
out again (and that didn't happen until after the last storm was past last
year) we now have a 3750W generator - enough for the fridge, a/c in Florida
room, and entertainment.
Interesting side effect, am seeing signs in stores that generators are
non-returnable items. Guess they are concerned that people will buy one
when a storm is coming then try to return it when past.
Funny thing is that I am seeing generators on display with lawn mower sized
gas tanks, good for about 45 minutes (ours has a five gallon tank and
various safety features like a low oil pressure cutout and is rated to run
continuously).
