On the few parades I've done in old cars (mostly in non-Corvairs) my primary problem was the plugs loading up. I'd look to that before vapor lock (which
usually doesn't occur when running at least in my experience). You might be able to check this out by idling in your driveway and pulling a plug to examine.
This might indicate the need for hotter plugs for parades... this was my approach in my TR6 which never overheated, but woulld barely run after an hour of
idling or so.
