What you see is the steel head gasket 'eroding' into the aluminum head.
Technically it should be trued up, but I've slapped a new set of steel
gaskets in and they've run fine. Apparently there's enough 'crush' in the
gaskets to assume the shape of the head sealing surface, but it SHOULD be
flat.
