Here;'s my input:
1500 to 3000+ if it runs fairly well.
Here;'s some of the depends:::
if not done already, $400 to rebuild clutch and re-bolt the flywheel; it's
going to need it if you are going to drive it.
$300 to have carbs rebuilt
$200 to have brakes brought up to safe condition.
$300 to get distributor rebuilt and ignition up to reliable level.
$200 to get the shifter running smooth and relubed/rebuilt.
$3000 for a very good paint job, or spray it yourself for $500. ( every time
(g))
$3000 to rebuild ( have it rebuilt at a corvair doctor ) a good stocker
engine if needed ... that's why the $1500 lowball if compression is bad etc.

About half of corvair engines that don't seem to have much wrong with them
really don't .... I know some that have set 20 years because the owners
didn't know about viton Pushtube seals; they assumed the rings were gone.
Every used corvair I have bot or observed was out of time, PO I guess
thought that was something he could fix, when actually he needed plug wires,
or points, or plugs. And/or.

So, if the body is good, the engine runs good, and a lot of the above has
already been done, I would put down $4000+ real quick for a nice 140. You
will have that much in it if you are going to bring it up to drive it a
thousand miles and back... condition anyway.

The turbos, the 140's, and especially the convertibles are going up fast,
and besides, you will be getting a lot of smiles per mile ... more than a
1999 Used Neon at the same price ... and depreciation is about zero for the
corvair, if that counts toward what the 'vair is worth.

I have had 2nd childhoodcorvairs for 20 years now and am still amazed at how
many people chase me across parking lots, run red lights, etc., to tell me
they used to have one, etc.....

just some thoughts ... ken campbell, iowuh guy.

Oh, I guess I should add that the more I drive my stocker 110, the more I
think that maybe the 140 performance is not worth the more complex 4carb
hassle, and the possibility of the dropping valve seats of the 140 big valve
heads. With my lowly 110 I can outrun and outhandle almost anything that is
not trying to race me, and almost any modern ricer can absolutely clean our
clocks anyway !! (g).
