Personally I cannot stand that! My 66 and 65 v8 are "recal'd" to read
on the "E" line when empty...that's how I comfortably got 436 miles on 13.4
gal. of gas....without stopping!
This really makes a difference with large tanks.....
Had a 1 ton Dodge Karyvan [ box] 35 gal. tank.....bad ground....pickup in
clocked wrong.....didn't matter. as fuel was being taken from the "vapor
return port" [ don't ask me how!]
Would run out at 1/4 try to fill..might get 20 gal. in...physically
full..but only read 3/4
All this and only got 5mpg! 360 / 904 auto approx 140 miles per
tank.....unless you went slower! ???? AND could drive into a station when on 1/4
and running OK...shut off...add 10 gal......would not restart......needed 5
more! Where did the gas in the carb's fuel bowl go??? Running on fumes???
No idea how this could be..but it was! Engine would only vaporlock above
5000 ft! Came up the Grapevine [I-5] in 120 deg. weather just fine!
Anyway...got the engine to get 13mpg. [ after I re-smogged it to sell it...]
and got 39 gal. into system [ full to top of neck [ vapor return line
plugged]
475-510 miles per tank!
Poor guy I sold it to said it took 4 or 5 times to "learn" ggg
