Roger,
In general, I am not in favor of the "authorities" forcing us to remove our
parts cars any more than forcing their will on kids for their music. I think
that there is way too much interference in ours lives by the authorities.
However, I am also not in favor of people literally forcing me to listen to their
choice of music. I believe that we have the right to have our parts cars but
not in the front yard or in the street of an upscale neighborhood where it
detracts from the neighbors' enjoyment of their own homes or reduces the value of
their property. I believe that you can listen to your music at any volume
you choose as long as it doesn't prevent me from enjoying my music or prevent me
from talking on the phone or sleeping, etc. Your right to enjoy your
hobbies, music, etc. ends when it forces me to abandon mine. I have a Harley that I
enjoy riding. It doesn't have straight pipes but has a free flow exhaust
system that some might think is loud. When I fire it up for a ride, I let it warm
up without revving it and take off and return "gently." I do this out of
common consideration for my neighbors. Yes, there are flakes out there who look
for any reason to complain whether justified or not. It seems that they are
unhappy by choice. I doubt that the police are writing tickets or impounding
cars due to frivolous complaints. Just my humble opinion.

I'm afraid I'll have to come down on the side of the kids on this one. If we
complain when the "authorities" want to confiscate our parts cars or future
projects because the sight of them offends some flaky neighbor, then we're
obligated to support the kids when those same authorities go after them. Car
audio is no less legitimate as a hobby than what most of us do, and its practice
does no more harm.

I don't think any of us are going to die by subwoofer overload. Physically
ill from some kid thumping down the street? Yeah, right.
