Hi Todd,
There are only two occasions when a high volume oil pump is needed in my 
opinion. One if you are using a front mounted oil cooler (maybe) and second if 
your cam bearings in the case are worn and you are getting the dash light 
illuminated at idle speeds.
Otherwise the pump just saps horsepower and can wear the dist drive gear to 
failure or snap the roll pin.
