I think it was Will Rodgers who said; "I only know what I read in the 
newspapers."  I must, as a prefacing caveat to my following advice, paraphrase Will 
Rodgers and say that I only know what I read because I am not an automotive 
engineer, a race driver (professional or amateur) and not even much at all of a 
grease monkey.  However, germane to this discussion, I think it should be 
pointed out that on the '60-'63 Corvairs (the ones I call "earliers") GM relied 
upon a hydraulic stop in the rear shocks to limit rebound.  As such, the 
installation of after-market shocks can be problematic.  I believe this issue is 
addressed in the Tech Guide.  I think it is recommended that after-market shocks be 
shimmed with certain washers.  Anyway, forewarned is fair-warned.  Check the 
Tech Guide for the word from our experts.
