Based only on my (dim) memory and observation during these years, all of GM
was like this. Fisher Body and Ternstedt(sp?)-long-gone div. that made
trim, door handles were the only commonality between the lines. All had
their own power, the beloved Powerglide was exclusive to Chevy. Chevy and
GMC pickups, panel trucks and the Suburban/Carryall shared bodies, but the
rest were all on their own. Maybe standard trans and rear ends?
