Bob,
I've been using Mobil 1 in all my 4 of my Corvairs for at least 10 years...
do the maintenance and replace those seals. Back in the 80's I used 20w50
oil as a way to slow down the leaks but again, the right way to do it is to
replace the "bad" seals.
Besides syn motor oil, I also use syn brake fluid, syn A/T fluid, and syn
axle lube in the one non-posi rear-end that I have. Based on the advice
from many "experts", I wouldn't advise using the synthetics in a posi.
Either some good regular stuff along with the posi friction modifier
additive from GM or the Lakewood (brand name not Corvair station wagon) posi
gear lube are both good choices.

What do any of you know about introducing synthetic blend oils or full
synthetic oil to our collector cars? The rumor mill would tell one that
through the years an old car would have its' seals cleaned out and leak
in a big way if synthetic oil was introduced to the system. The false
seals would give way to big trouble. Now, my car friends are telling me
that if one continues with the process that eventually the engine would
seal up again,in time, with the continued use of synthetic oil.
My question is this: Is it worth using synthetic blend or full synthetic
oil in our collector cars for the added protection?
