I've heard similar stories from Costcos up here in the Great White North, so it's probably a 
corporate thing.

Although, when I took my '66cpe in to have two tires I supplied mounted on my 15" wheels (they 
were also a different width than the already mounted front tires) there was nary a whisper from 
them.
