Doug Mackintosh obviously has an unusual and admirable daughter who earned
her first car with a wrench, and a Corvair at that.
Although MY 17-year-old girl loves the Corvair, she drives a modern
BMW, but to the surprise of many, she chose a manual transmission, just as
her older brother had, and not to imitate him. So everyone drives manual now
except Mom, and as for me driving manual, it wasn't a special preference -
the Corvair I found happened to have a manual transmission, and that's fine
with me.
Continuing with my daughter, whom I hope I don't jinx with this, she
hasn't wrecked or damaged her car in over a year of driving it. She IS a
spirited driver, and between that and the general odds of such things, I
expect she WILL bang up this or some other car eventually. I just hope it
will just be the cars.
