Hey Craig and All, I have been following the thread from the start and have
the
following to add: Mequiars plastic polish is one of the best of the plastic
polishes;
Carnuba wax is an excellent final application although it will attract
dust; Your
0000 steel wool + WD 40 is an excellent beginning or intermediate step;
Silver polish has
a very very fine pumice in it which is the abrasive that "cuts" unwanted
surface
contaminants be they paint or other matter; ordinary inexspensive
toothpaste has a
very very fine pumice in it and will clean and polish plastic instrument
lenses and "plastic"
watch lenses; and finally, the final polishing of plastics should always be
with the soft foam
applicator or a very soft 100% cotton rag or even better a well used T-shirt.

>The trick is to find something that will be powerful enough to take off the
>paint without damage to the plastic. My suggestion of 0000 steel wool,
>lubricated with WD-40 was not speculative. I have used it for this exact

>I agree, it sounds weird, but it does the job well. After the paint is off,
>it wouldn't hurt to polish the lens and the doctor's lens polishing tip is
>just the ticket for that.
