I've squirted countless gallons of water on a 15+ PSI Corvair turbo, right
into the compressor inlet, with no ill effects. The tip speed simply isn't fast
enough.

shut off valve is always a good idea, especially if you can't locate the
water supply tank well below the nozzle outlet. The VaraJection
instructions, for
example, state that the tank cap (at TOP of tank) MUST be mounted between 3
inches and 8 inches BELOW nozzle outlet.

Because , after the carb is always a high vacuum under all conditions. It
would not be injected, but sucked---perhaps sucked dry.
