3M TemFlex is just about the best in my experience. Most 3M tapes are pretty
good. Adhesive-less tape IS good for wiring harnesses (you don't exactly say
that's what you're using it for), but there's a certain amount of technique
and forethought involved in arranging to tie it off securely at the point
where you finish wrapping. Get both, and plan to experiment with the
adhesive-less tape. My source is www.mcminone.com, electronics dealer.
Quality DOES matter in electrical tape, as do cleanliness and proper
application, particularly where heat involved at one point or another. Avoid
no-brands.

Just wondering what the best electrical tape is. Whatever brand I used on
my last project (a few years ago, so I don't remember) is coming undone in a
gummy mess. Or is liquid electrical tape the way to go? I've also heard of
tape that I believe was described as "self-vulcanizing."
