Now I understand why my wife and I love convertibles (she has a Miata and I
have a '66 Monza) -- we can't hear each other!

Do consider than in highway driving with the windows down, a convertible's
occupants cannot hear each other without shouting, nor can any sound system
make music worth listening to.
That's just the effects of wind noise. Traffic roar will fatigue everyone
onboard in a hurry.
