Hi Andy,

Vendors that specialize in many collectible cars other than Corvair
automatically catalog the date codes as well as the "HP" codes of the engines they
acquire. Some even go further and search out the smaller clues as to what year
the engine may have been built instead of what time of the year it was built.
As you may know, a particular engine code could be any of several HP ratings
and from any of several years. Those vendors do that because their customer
base has a desire for that information. In addition, the prices reflect that
service. It seems that the typical Corvair collector is not quite that retentive
and doesn't demand it, with few exceptions. The Corvair vendors may take the
effort if you request it but probably don't have the engines already
cataloged that way. I may be wrong about this regarding one or two vendors but a
couple of them won't even take the effort to tell you if the engine in question is
seized or not.

You may need to settle for a correct engine code without the correct date
code for your particular car. If it is important to you, push for the exact
correct crankcase. You can probably do this since you aren't pressed to get your
car on the road. You can afford to wait.

Good luck,
Doc

Subject: <VV> Block #'s

Good Morning All,

Please excuse the bandwidth this is really just from curiosity. I have
read many people asking to locate a block with a specific production date code
on it yet I have never read a post with the results of the search. Has anyone
had any luck finding such a block? I would imagine it is a lot to ask from a
vendor to search through piles of blocks for such a request. My Spyder has
the correct heads turbo etc. but a LM 110 block and at some point I would like
to find a correct block for it even if it is not the original.

                                                                 Thanks
                                                                Andy Cone
