Andy,
There was a discussion a while back about the fusible link. It's really
only a piece of wire four sizes smaller than the wire that it's protecting.
Why not install a proper fuse. The Maxi-fuse was suggested as a good
candidate. Makes for a nice way to disable the car when parked in
unfriendly territory. Just pull the fuse and put it in your pocket.
NAPA
Holder 782-7771
20 amp 782-1077
30 amp 782-1078
40 amp 782-1079
50 amp 782-1085
60 amp 782-1086
Outside of NAPA, I think you can get up to 80 amp fuses and I think the
maker is Littlefuse.
I just did a quick google and found zillions of hits on "maxi-fuse".

Subject: <VV> Electrical questions
Guys,
I have two questions:
1 - I want to put a fusible link into the main power wire. However, I went
to the auto parts place, and the FLs they had only had the wire gauge
listed; no amp rating. Any recommendations what gauge wire fusible link to
use?
2 - I am doing some rewiring by the engine. A non-Corvair guy recommended a
ballast resistor that feeds the coil 'about 8 volts'. Is that correct, or
should it be 6 volts?
Thanks,
Andy K.
