Mike and Jim,
    Good points!  I guess I was thinking of silicone getting into the OIL and 
subsequently getting burned just in case your Corvair is one of those RARE 
ones that burns oil(:-).
    I wonder if the Ultra Copper is free of any silicones?  I guess as long 
as it's on the OUTSIDE of the exhaust system components, it shouldn't get into 
the INSIDE which is under some pressure when the engine is running.
    I also wonder what the car companies use for their gasket assemblies.
