When I rebuild an engine, after thoroughly cleaning them and using a wire
buffer to remove any accumulated rust, I paint them with Rustoleum high
temperature silver.  Strictly for self satisfaction on looks and to possibly
help keep them from rusting.  I do tape off the ends where the 'O' rings are
before painting them.  Just my .02 cents worth.
