What I do for sticky accelerator linkage is take it a part starting in the  
front and work toward the rear. Remove the pedal from the shaft, check for free 
 return. Remove the pedal pivot, check for free return. Eventually you should 
 fine what section is preventing the complete return.
 
I use white lithium grease for the pivots and bushings. You can get it in a  
spray which makes it easy to apply it.
