Thanks, you have provided a critical piece of the puzzle - I was going to ask 
if someone had a 66 500.

A couple of quesitons, if you don't mind...

Do you believe that the shifter is original to the car?
Is it painted or chrome?
What shape is the lever?  Is it bannana shaped with the ball end sticking up 
at an angle (like a '65 spd) or is it the familiar 90 degree shape where the 
ball-threads point to the rear of the car?
