Bob Helt's new book is wonderful but now my tire mind is confused. Just when
I thought 185/80/13 was the way to go for my '64 Monza,Bob says the
175/80/13 is the correct size.
Yo, Bob,
Many thanks for the plug about my new book, Corvair Secrets, but I wish that
you had given the reasons for why I had made that statement. Taking it out
of context gives the totally wrong impressions.
Specifically I stated that there are two main criteria for choosing a
replacement tire size. First is to mintain speedometer and acceleration
characteristics as near to stock as possible. Thus, one would use the tire revs per mile
comparisons to make that choice. That means the 175/80R13 would be correct
per tire specs.
But the second criterion is to have visually identical tire that fills the
tirewell like the stock tire. In that case you would want to choose the
185/80R13.
YOUR CHOICE!
Regards,
Bob Helt
