<VV> starter woes

Ron,
I believe the overrunning clutch is in the starter solenoid, but I could be wrong. I'm working from my memory of what I've read and not actual, hands-on experience. I should have made it clearer in my original post that, while I replaced the starter and solenoid as a unit, it's the old solenoid on the old starter that I'm eventually going to dismantle and see if I can fix.
Taking things apart to see how they work has been a bad habit of mine since I was old enough to hold wrenches and screwdrivers. Maybe that's why I love my Corvair so much; I've always been able to put it back together. I can't say that about everything I've taken apart!

Are you talking about the starter or the starter solenoid? They are two
different things and the starter drive is part of the starter.
