Well, of all my present cars, only the Fiero is without ABS. However, I
noticed the same thing with earlier Subarus without ABS.
I am looking at non GM master cylinders to solve this one...

I think GM just didn't design to the same standard as Nissan or Subaru -- do
any of your others have anti-lock? Does the '88? All older GM's (or should I
say American made) with dual systems that I am familiar with go near the
floor when bleeding, and are pretty soft in partial failure mode.
If you figure this one out, I for one, would like to know how to get that
performance with a GM master cylinder, if it can be done. Good Luck!
