60's vs 90's!    YES!     "Slip"  is used for accelleration!  But it 
generates Heat!   With the ability to "lockup"  this can be taken advantage of...but 
back in the 60's  a tight convertor was necessary...  The original 
"Switch-Pitch"  convertor tried to use this as well...
