<VV> 66 Cooling Fan Color

I am preparing to powder coat the upper and lower shrouds on my 66 140 and 
I am wondering what is the correct factory finish for the cooling fan. 
After cleaning it, the color is a flat gray. Was there a finish on the fan 
or is this the way it looked upon delivery? If there was a finish can 
someone recommend a suitable product that replicates the original?
