The problem is in the switch. Check for a broken or loose cancelling plate
(white crescent). If that's OK, unplug and pull the switch out as far as the
wires will allow and flip it over. Remove the screw and cancelling plate.
This will expose the contacts. You *might* be able to clean and reshape the
contacts, but the outcome of this isn't very reliable. If you just want to put
this to bed for another 20-40 years, just replace the switch.
