I think it depends on what you are using to determine fuel pressure to the  
carb. If you are using the stock, bypass, fuel filter - which also functions as 
 a pressure regulator via the return circuit - yes, you have to retain the 
return  line. If you have added a separate filter and a low-pressure controller 
to  maintain the correct pressure, you probably do not need the stock  
filter/regulator and therefore you won't need the return circuit. - Seth  Emerson
