And AGAIN, it's EASY to identify the good pumps from the bogus pumps which
ended up on the markets for a while and still show up now and
again. There's still a few bogus pumps sitting on warehouse shelves,
waiting to leak fuel into a Vair engine upon installation.
I will ALWAYS pick a mechanical pump over the electric if I have a choice,
simply because the RIGHT pump will work well for 20 years or more without
any trouble. The incorrect pump can be depended upon to cause trouble
and leak because of an insistence by a gasket manufacturer that their
unreinforced diaphragm material *would* hold up in pump service when it
certainly would NOT. And, didn't.
And once more, I state that it's so easy to identify the bad pumps from the
good ones simply by LOOKING at the side of the pump...
All my stuff has mechanical pumps, and they ALL run fine with them and I
have NO failures among any of them. Last pump I bought was from a west
coast vendor, and it's working fine. I've since checked out several pumps
carried by an east coast vendor and the ones I saw in his stash were all
correct.
I'd not be afraid of any mechanical pump as long as it's the RIGHT pump,
made to the same specs as the originals. And these pumps ARE still out
there.
