<VV> A/C Suggestions (Eric Holte)

I added A/C to my 1966 Corsa 140 coupe in 1998, and went full stock right
down to using R-12. I am satisfied with the results, and I live in an area
that REALLY requires A/C about 90 percent of the time. If I had it to do
over again, I think I'd use a Sanden compressor such as Rusty Rose's kit
includes, and I might follow one of the recipes for using R-134a, just to
get cheaper/more-readily-available refrigerant. My chief dissatisfaction
concerns the compressor, which leaks oil all over the engine compartment,
even after being professionally rebuilt.
The stock condenser MAY cause engine overheating, but I find that using
synthetic oil seems to cure that. No trailer pulling, and if you have to
deal with long hill climbs, you may need to consider alternatives for
condenser placement (no hills where I am). Your engine-cooling system must
be in tip-top condition at all times and in all ways.
I can't think of any way to keep your spare where it is UNLESS you go
to a Sanden compressor together with a miniature spare such as is found in
more-recent vehicles. And I can NOT assure you this would work, either - I'm
rambling.

I have just read "How to A/C. Any..." , you get it. Well, here is my
question
for the assemblage. I went to A/C my 1966 corsa 140 convertible. what are
your suggestions as to the best way to go: full stock; a mix of stock and
after
market; after market "guts" with all cosmetics stock of full after market?
Also
what design solutions has anyone come up with for placement of the
condenser?
I really want to keep my spare tire where it is and I also want to leave my
trunk intact? any suggestions?
Thanks (hope this doesn't start a massive flood - LOL)
