On cement or paved surfaces, jackstands are OK. On grass or dirt, sorry,
I'm gonna pick the stumps. I value my unbroken bones too much to trust a
jackstand on grass or dirt. I've seen too many of them fall over.
I'm with Tony on this one, good Oak stumps work great on grass and hot
pavement.
I removed a 63 drivetrain in 20 min.'s once that way, in back yard, wet
grass, but then I did cheat used same 3/4 plywood to support the jack and more
to roll it across the yard to the shop. Have R & R more trive trains with no
more the a jack, a back pocket full of tools and logs or jackstands, depending
on the surface. Have an ATV jack now and it is great in the shop, I do wish
I had my Yenko Clone up on logs and not jackstands when the starter jammed on
my roadster and it hit the Vair. Pushed it off the stands and put one right
thru the floor, if it had been on 12" dia.stumps it would have stopped the
roadster in it's tracks.
