<VV> Gas Smell

My fuel pump died and I replaced it with one a new one from the car my son
and I are rebuilding (my son doesn't now it missing).  Now I am smelling gas
in the passenger compartment but can't seem to find any leaking or traces of
fuel anywhere.  Do I have to adjust the floats in the carbs since I'm now
getting gas to them?
