Rainy season is bad for my bussiness but good for my cars as I have lots
of time to work on them so, on Monday I finished the installation of a
previously rebuilt front suspension for the Rampside which included all new
bushings and ball joints. Found a new way (at least for me) to install springs
with a very easy to make spring compressor (pictures available).New front
brakes' shoes too.
On Tuesday, started to rebuild the fuel sender from the 67 cpe. in the
hard but cheapest way. Got the old one, measured the diameter of the Nicrhomel
wire (0.004"= # 39AWG) and bought 20 ft.(less than $2) of the thinner
available locally (# 38) which, supossedly should have a larger diameter but,
in fact was 0.004". Winding it on the old shell by hand took an hour,
including insulating. Finally I got a "new" 102 ohms sender (not too far from
the nominal 90). Then, was the time for installing my first in-tank pump.
Sender and pump tested yesterday (Ok) and wired this morning thru the floor
tunnel. Lesson: don't attempt to rewire a fuel sender unless you have lots of
patience and no other things to do.
Afternoon was dedicated to replace brake pads on a non Corvair car, for
sale.
