Geoff,
Years ago on my first ever engine rebuild I installed all new parts
including a Racer Brown cam kit. It ran like a scalded dog..for awhile. Then
it started losing power and feeling like it had a miss. Finally I got down
to looking at the cam. That's when I saw a cam lobe that looked like a
journal. After tearing down the engine I found where all those little pieces
of cam lobe went. EVERYWHERE! Especially the bearings and the oil pump
gears. Check everything and clean repeatedly!
I realized the reason for the failure was the fact that I didn't know about
start up and work hardening of a new cam and lifters. I didn't run them in
like you are supposed to. I've never made that mistake again.

By the way, that same engine is still alive today in my old dune buggy!

> Yup its a very very dead lobe and lifter. Lifter face is wallowed out.
