Incorrect. On HEI systems, the coil is off when there's no signal. HEI uses a
fixed dwell time system. It only turns the coil on for so long, and
discharges it. And it doesn't turn it on and discharge it again until it receives
another signal from the pickup. Otherwise, it remains off.
However, a Corvair CAN be fitted with HEI, and that's a good thing!
Especially for the turbo models.

This isn't beating a dead horse, it is polverizing it, especialy since
corvairs don't even use HEI.
However, remember that spark happens when power is removed from the coil,
something about ELI being the ICE man. The pickup coil tells the module when to
turn off power to the coil and thus creat a spark. If the pickup dosn't tell
the module anything , the module will keep the coil turned on. This will
increase the duty cycle of both the coil and the module which may cause the coil
and module to overheat. Especially when listening to Oingo Boingo in your 4 Dr
hardtop sedan coupe. Ever see a blue HEI coil??
