Thanks to Larry and David and JR and John! I'll recheck the installation presently. Obviously it isn't correct in the pedal free play and the piston's ability to move completely is liekly restricted..  

John, the installation is really fast, except I used two slow hours. The new cylinder has two pipes, one of which fits without alteration. Placing and drilling a single hole (for the rear line) is easy. The only delicate part is carefully bending one line to meet its new connection at the hole. I had nightmares about collapsing the line and needing to replace it.
