<VV> Alternator Charging Question

Do you have any reason BESIDES meter readings to dissatisfy you about your
charging system? The difference between the readings you are getting and
what you should be getting is within the error range of much uncalibrated
instrumentation out there. How about describing your instrumentation and its
accuracy?
Another gambit: forget about it. Wait and see if your battery
discharges. If it does, recharge it and start looking for something to fix.
If it doesn't, problem solved - and forgotten about, unless you wish to
address the problem of your meter.
By the way, if the charge in your battery is low, you WILL get readings
like those you report while it is charging up. This process can require two
hours or more of steady running above idle. Again, consider forgetting about
it, at least for the time being.
Is your Delco voltage regulator for a Corvair? What is its number? Look
for a seven-digit GM part number. Voltage regulators ARE Corvair-specific.

Subject: <VV> Alternator Charging Question
Hi,
Our alternator is not charging the battery properly on our '66. We put a
brand new Delco voltage regulator on. When the car is running, the voltage
is 12.65 at 2000 rpm with no headlights or accessories (radio) running.
With headlights or accessories on, it goes down to 11.96.
Is this sufficient to power the car, do we need a rebuild, or is something
else wrong?
Thanks,
Sam & Marissa Andolino
