I have found that it is fairly simple to gut the stock fuel pump, remove the 
pushrod and keep the lines in the stock location when installing an electric 
pump. I have been using this set up for about 5 years without incident. If you 
use the instructions in the tech guide to make a dummy pump, be sure to note 
that the instructions leave out an important gasket (it will be obvious when 
you start it up :-).
