Of those 6  things..only the fact that very few "line"  shops will take them 
on, and that they are underpowered  usually, are familiar to me...

And almost any  V W  Beetle shop WILL.......but of course they are dying out 
as well...

Old???    frame of mine......those with cars made in the 20's - 30's  will 
think not..

Smelly?    Only if the owner doesn't repair oil leaks...

Cold?        Not if the heater works....easy ...  simple device...

Hard to start?       A FLAT / horizontally opposed engine  is about the 
easiet engine to crank over there is...usually there is something wrong....

Example:    My  '69  was hard to get started on cold mornings [ got it in 
March ], even with an electric fuel pump........

until I fixed the one choke mechanism that had fallen off the head!  The 
other day it was 34 deg.   2 pumps on the pedal and it fired right up....7 minutes 
later the ice was gone off the windshield...
