Hi Jim,
It sounds like you don't have a shop manual.  If so, that should be one of your FIRST purchases.  It is CRITICAL that you have a correct factory shop manual and any required supplements when working on your car.  This information is shown in your shop manual.  You can pick up a used shop manual on eBay that someone might have "pre-lubed" for you.  LOL.

To address your question, the vacuum diaphram goes to the VERTICAL port (ported vacuum) on your right carb with the left carb port plugged.  Don't connect it to the horizontal port!
