Yeah, I'm an engineer too, and if I actually investigated the absolute
accuracy of automotive instruments, I'd have a coronary. Or a MAJOR project on my
hands. <G>

I think what most of us care about isn't absolute accuracy as much as
repeatability. If it's off the same amount every time, you'll still see when
things are hotter than you're used to seeing.
