Bruce, where near/in are you? There's a guy that works at Murray's in Livonia named Dan, he told me of a guy that does good work whose name escapes me but if you call Murray's and speak to Dan in parts he'll tell you. Tell the girl with the 65 Vair sent you.
Alesia
P.S. if you're near, I really need the help getting her running, I will do the work and feed you for guidance.

I need paint and minor body work for my '64 vert. If anyone knows the
name of this mystery shop, could you forward it on to me. If not but
if
you can recommend other shops in the Detroit area, I would appreciate
that as well. Thanks.

I did on my Rampside but, no more. Went to 205-70-14 (4 ply) ten months
ago and I am very pleased with them.
Have been using 8 ply for years (can`t get 6 ply here) and they lasted many
miles of rough and unconfortable driving. Didn't have any troubble with
205-70-14s even with loads up to 1,800 lbs. on trips up to 200 miles on bad
roads. I think that 6 plies could be a good compromise if your Greenbrier is
heavy loaded.

I highly recommend Flowmasters for manual Trans cars. I do not recommend
them for PG cars. The "mellow tone" becomes a "mellow DRONE" at cruise speeds
with the PG - I am not sure why. It may have something to do with the constant
load of a Torque converter. On a Manual trans car, I installed a pair of
flowmasters after tube headers, very important - I added a crossover before the
Flowmasters. That made the difference. At least for the usage I had, autocross,
it sounded fine. Ken Holm - on occasion, a contributor to this list - drove
the car from California to upstate New York, where it broke a crank (another
story/another time) - He may have a feel for the sound. It was a manual
trans car. - Seth Emerson

Geez - first balding white 65 Monza with a light beard that I've seen
running in search of plastic doodads. It must look just like me... (;-))

Me too - and the lunch was much appreciated - as was the exceptionally nice
glass of Syrah wine I had at Bob Lindsey's. Vair people are very
hospitable...
Sadly, I missed Bill, and also Bob Marlow - Hershey is so big that I never,
ever get round everything I need to do. Wish it lasted two weeks, in fact
(I'd still be there then!!).
Cheers

P.S. Thanks for the nice message - I am characteristically sad to be back

For what it's worth, I've been running Pirelli P400 Touring tires for years
on my '64 Greenbrier 4spd with Addco bars. They have excellent traction, temp
and treadwear ratings and were even rated a best buy by Consumers Reports. I
was the only person to get up our hill with the 'Brier and Pirellis when we
had 18" of snow. Tire Rack sells them for under $50 each and I bought all of
mine locally for under $45.00. (yes the Addco front bar interferes with full
lock turning for all correct sizes, but one learns to back off a bit).

Wow! They speak Italian in Belize? I've never been there, but I think I'd
better go and check for myself.
Can't tell much from your story. Engine running or not? I guess, not,
because I THINK that's what you mean by "not croaking." Ignition on, or off?
What light is it that doesn't come on? I've been off the list for a week or
so, so if you've gotten it running, I missed the news.
Are you getting a spark? If not, check your points while rotating the
crankshaft (both hands on the fan belt - takes upper-body strength). Your
points MUST open and close as the cam underneath the points goes around. If
they do, it's likely timing. I think your coil and its voltages are OK. You
might measure 1.53 volts if the points happen to be closed, 6 to 9 if they
are open (check that black-and-yellow wire DISCONNECTED from the coil).
I know what you mean about stale mate. My first wife called me that
right before our divorce.

Hey people it's me again!
First my car now has a name it's "RANA" (Frog in Italian) made official by
my friend in Belize.
Rana seems to be having electrical difficulties. I re-tested the battery
it's getting 12.53 volts, the black and yellow wire to the coil is only
putting out 1.53 volts so my coil is only getting 1.53 volts. Now I'm now
electronic genius but it seems to me that if the battery is producing 12.53V
that wire should be giving off 12.53V to the coil.
Now I disconnected the the harness at the connector, just in front of the
ignition connector, and tested (with a test light) and some of those were
lighting but some were not. If I'm not a total doorknob the big red wire is
the positive battery connection in that connector and it should make the
light come on...Well it doesn't!
Somebody please tell me something that makes sense here and then tell me
how to fix it. Pa-Leeeee-zzzz.

Lastly, many thanks to Harold, Mike, Tony, and everyone else re: my earlier
query for Corvair production #'s by year...I was forwarded a breakdown via
Corvair Central.com, but does sound like i need to pu a copy of Tony's book
for all the other good stuff. Not much luck on running DMV #'s to trace
vehicle history - perhaps Oregon is the only state w/o a "stalker" law?

Bruce et.al;
The last copy of the Corvair Decade that CORSA had was sold to me last year.
I sent it to Tony Fiore and he was kind enough to dedicate and autograph it
for me.
Hopefully a director can give more information, I believe strongly that I
was told that the reprint of the Decade is on the Board's agenda.
I am certainly no expert in digital printing. I am lucky I understand what
it is. If the book is reprinted digitally I believe that the cost would be
around a third of what the last reprint cost, from asking people who
actually know what they are talking about.
For those of you that weren't around then, the last printing of the Decade
was one of the items that nearly bankrupted the club. This was in no way any
one persons fault, there were many factors and I am not privy to them all.
Reading back copies of the Communique from the early 90's would enlighten
those interested.
No shot at any director, but history and personal experience has taught me
that the Board usually moves VERY slowly to spend money. Perhaps this is
prudent. It can also be very frustrating. All that remember our financial
troubles of the late 80's and early 90's surely don't want to see a repeat
of those times, so the only way IMO they move faster is to be lobbied.
Let your Directors know you want the book printed in enough numbers, garner
a list of pre-print run orders, and perhaps they will move a bit quicker.
Recent history showed us how fast a book can go into the Black----The Basics
Manual did just that in no time flat. To the credit of many on this list.
At any rate, I am certain that the book will be re-printed at some point in
the future. If not, I have two!!
